Hello folks,

I heard Phillip Herrewege has a Stravinski cd out, so...
thought I might let you hear this.
This is a video of the 2008 festival of OLD music in Utrecht, the Netherlands, where an "authentic" orchestra (Kolner academie) playes Stravinski's sacre:

Interesting here is, that they did not use the "normal" printed score, but used the score Pierre Monteux made for the 1913 worldpremiere.
It rather differences in places.

Curious what you think of it...!

Greetings, Rolf

More "different then normal" Stravinski:

Stravinski's firebird, live april 10th, Marin Alsop conducts the Dutch Radio philharmonic orchestra. Not the suite, but the complete ballet. You can see the video of that concert (in the Amsterdam Concertgebouw) here:

Even more interesting, the original 1919 version of Les Noces, with the 3rd and 4rd movement completed by the Dutch composer Theo Verbey (remember the Concertgebouworchestra cd with his orchestration of Alban Berg's pianosonata?) . There is also a version of the Scherzo a la Russe in an arrangement by Louis Andriessen. The video is from a concert for the 72th birthday of HM Beatrix, queen of Holland. This Stravinski program was her personal choice (!).

You can see the video here:

http://cgi.omroep.nl/legacy/player?/ceres/1/nps/rest/2010/NPS_1155128/bb.20100430.asf

Music is played after 5 min interview, Les Noces starts at 24'30"

For people who want to see the Silverlight version:

(starts with commercial, then the video)

Enjoy!

Authentic? Using instruments from what period? The early 20th?

RE: Authentic Stravinski...

Thanks for providing.

Both accounts of the Firebirds struck me as overview interpretation. Not nearly enough bite when called for.

Les Noces is a non-starter for me.
