Berg/ Beethoven: Druce Review
Wed, Mar 7 2012, 7:05PM
Duncan Druce's review is so far off the mark so as to be incompetent; subjectivity is inherent in any review, manipulation is not. The concept of supporting new recordings for advertising dollars is understandable, but there are those of us out there who have read and subscribed for years and who deserve a higher level of objectivity. Comparing Faust with Tetzlaff without mentioning any of the top Beethoven recordings, and Faust with Suk (seemingly only available in MP3 download or through the secondary market) without mentioning Szeryng, Perlman, Mutter or others borders on dishonest.
Gramaphone reviews, and the Music Guide, are rapidly becoming very unreliable sources for commentary.
