I gave up on Neeve Jarvi conducting 'mainstream' works many years ago and was fooled into thinking that BIS were giving a 'neglected master' a platform with their Holmboe series ( a composer who will be remembered soley for living on an island and planting some trees). Then I find 'Five Nordic Masters' a 5 cd set containing works by Stenhammer, Tubin and Svendsen ( along with Sibelius and Neilsen). Ummm ...... ' BIS masters' ......ummmm 'Neeve Jarvi' ........ummmm 'not received the recognition they deserve'. All sounds like some kind of trick to me, a victorian con man selling health potions. Ummmm ..... STENHAMMER, TUBIN and SVENDSEN, there won't be anyone out there carrying a flame of these three will there! I don't want symphonies based on scandinavian peasent dances, we've got ABBA for that.

RE: Five Nordic Masters

Your last sentence made me laugh.

BIS is a bit obscure but you cannot blame them for championing some Nordic neglected composers.

BTW he is called Neeme.
