Ormandy was, in his heyday, one of the highly regarded conductors. Concertgoers in Philadelphia must have had some rich experiences. i guess that, particularly in the States he must have been a big part of many record collections. Somehow he seems to have become unfashionable.
indeed, and this is reflected in the number of LPs of his recordings in the second-hand record stores of North America. He is a definite presence in my own shelves as a result of spending a year in Toronto, and many happy lunchtimes picking through the used record shops of Queen St West.
