I'm curious about HIP-recordings from 1975 and backwards.

In my collection I have som recordings from that period I will regard as great:

Rameau - Pieces de clavecin en concerts - Bruggen, W. & S. Kuijken & Leonhardt - Recorded 1971 - Teldec

Praetorius - Dances from Terpsichore 1612 - Early Music Consort of London Munrow - Recorded 1973 - EMI

Mufat & Biber - Suiten & Sonaten - Concentus Musicus Wien Harnoncourt - Recorded 1965 - DG

Telemann - Recorder Sonatas and Fantasias - Bruggen, Bylsma & Leonhardt - Recorded 1963-1971 - Teldec

Monteverdi - Vespro della Beata Vergine 1612 - Monteverdi Choir & Orchestra Gardiner - Recorded 1974 - Decca

Any other suggestions?

Alfred Deller, singing Bach Cantatas 54 & 170, with the Leonhardt Consort (including the Harnoncourts), isued on Vanguard PVL7028, recorded in 1954 or '55! Reviewed in Gramophone in April 1956. Years ahead of its time. I still have the LP.

If you like playing vinyl then I'd suggest looking for Archive Production; History of Music Division of the Deutsche Grammophon Gesellschaft. I collect the mono pressings and they each weigh about 250 grams. As starters I'd suggest Joseph Haydn 4 Divertimenti for Baryton, Viola and Violincello ARC 3120, 14 620 APM and The Early Renaissance, 14 Lieder and Instrumental Piecs from the Locheimer Liederbuch and the Fundamentum Organisandi by Conrad Paumann with Hans Sachs 5 Lieder ARC 3222, 14822 APM. These are mono only but they sound rich, especially if using a mono cartridge.

Wonderful singing from Deller. Unfortunately the playing isn't up to par. I would like to seperate Dellers voice and rerecord it with some skilful players of today.

Yes I like to play the vinyl. I have some trouble finding samples, from the two issues you are mentioning, on the internet. Do you know any samples I can try?

Essentially, these various recordings were catagorized into subject catagories like Manneheim and Vienna, Early Rennaissance, High Renaissance, The Italian Settecento, etc.. The records in yellow covers are the heavy platters and those which I collect (mono). If the cover is yellow but has a rectangular red tag stuck to it, then that is one of their early stereo recordings but still weighing in at 250 grams. Archive Production eventually got to a place where they changed their covers to include illustrations and they pressed lighter platters. Now they release music on CD's only.

There are certain editions that are just difficult to find and people selling them generally know this. I would suggest looking on ebay and Amazon as well as private classical record sellers. Here is what I came up with,

http://www.amazon.com/s/ref=nb_sb_noss_1?url=search-alias%3Dpopular&fiel...

and this store in NYC has nearly everything,

http://academy-records.com

The catalogue is so large and many of these pressings are so difficult to find that it becomes hit or miss but the quality is very high across the board.
