Karajan 1960s box and remastered editions
With Herbert Vain Karajan conducting it is probably just a flash bulb going off.

I was implying to query if the 3 pressings macsporran mentioned also had the noise, as I got 2 copies of the Galleria with the same issue, but to my knowledge another fellow has a copy of the Galleria that does not.
Why do you say Karajan is vain? I've seen a few posts here about eyes closed. Why is it not vain to have eyes open? One can be equally vain about his eyelids or eyeballs.

Herbert Vain Karajan only opened his eyes to look in the mirror, he liked to admire the view. But it seems you are being a little protective of the vain one, I thought his inner sanctum of friends wre re-educated in 1945.

To paraphrase a well known comment on Karajan - Vanity may have a whiff of sulfur.
But humbleness isn't washed socks, either.
On the other hand, the nose has nothing to do with the ears, unless they become stuffed, or in the case of Shostakovich.

If anyone would like to compare their Karajan re-masterings with how the originals might have sounded before they ditched their LPs then check out my site's new feature

I realise this might be too much of a sugar-rush for some although I find these recordings passionate and vibrant (anything but saccharine). I hope "persons of quality" will not disregard the other wonderful music on the page.

"Persons of quality" definitely cannot disregard the other "wonderful music" mentioned in your site. There are some truly beautiful and interesting recordings, indeed. However, Clive, be careful with these expressions such as "persons of quality"; it can be easily misunderstood or misused...

Some thing fell or popped at 10:17 - 10:19 of Leonore II in the DG 2 CD set.
