Latest Acquisitions
Don't know whether or not anyone started a thread on this (if so, I can't find it!), but I thought that you might be interested in sharing your latest finds/purchases (CDs, LPs, DVDs, etc.) of classical works here for others to view and/or ask questions about. :-)
I visited a local record shop today (They carry a mixture of used with a bit of new recordings) and came home with:
ropped by my favorite local CD store this morning to listen to some more of the stuff in my hold pile and picked up a small bunch. Here goes:
1) Rautavaara's Violin Concerto, Isle of Bliss, and Angels and Visitations with Segerstam on Ondine
2) an unopened copy of Madama Butterfly (RCA Living Stereo-hybrid SACD) with Leontyne Price and Leinsdorf
3) Ute Lemper's new CD called "Paris Days, Berlin Nights"
4) an Olympia CD of G. Enescu - Symphony No. 2 and Two Romanian Rhapsodies with Andreescu
5) an unopened CD of Magnus Lindberg - "Sculpture", "Campana in aria", and "Concerto for Orchestra" with Oramo and the Finnish RSO
6) a BIS CD of Sallinen - "Sym. No. 4," "Shadows", and "Sym. No. 5" with James De Priest and the Malmo SO
7) And another Sallinen CD of "Sym. No. 8" and his "Violin Concerto" on CPO with Ari Rasilainen, etc.
8) Jorge Bolet playing Chopin's 24 Preludes and 4 Nocturnes on London
9) "Music of Takemitsu" with Rudolf Werthen and I Fiamminghi on Telarc.
Lots of modern/contemporary recordings (for the most part) for me to exlore--hopefully "happily" so!
And you?
Best wishes,
Petra

I have become a great fan of Riccardo Muti's so have bought 'Forza del Destino', 'Macbeth', 'Attila', the Schumann and Tchaikovsky symphonies. There haven't been any new issues of his conducting for over a year, which is a sad reflection on the recording industry.
Hi Adrian! Thanks for replying to my post; however, I accidentally posted it twice and couldn't delete it. There is therefore another thread (with the same title) which folks have been kindly contributing to. Sorry, by the way for the delay in replying to you--I just stumbled across your posting now!
Hope that you are enjoying your Muti! I'll have to look into those operatic recordings...don't think that I have any with him conducting!
Best wishes,
Petra
