Living Bible Old Testament 12 LP recording read by Sir Lawrence Olivier
Hi my in laws have an original 12 LP set of the Living Bible Old Testament read by Sir Lawrence Olivier. These are pressings so have not been sold in the shops but play perfectly. Does anyone know how I would go about valuing these? As they are pressings they aren't in the presentation case but are in excellent condition! any help would be appreciated.
Thank you
Mark

Hi Mark!
Sorry, but I'm not following you here. When you say "pressings", do you mean something like test pressings? Did one of your inlaws used to work for whichever label put them out? I see that the boxed sets can go for rather high numbers on eBay UK (I didn't look elsewhere). You might wish to talk to a specialist here (perhaps a reputable shop in your area of maybe initially by email?). Sorry, I'm not more helpful!
Best wishes,
Petra

Hi Petra, thank you for your reply. Yes my father-in-law was given them, he called them the masters? which I persume is what you call test pressings, I did see that one on the ebay US site but that was the only one I could find too! I'll have a ask around and see what I can find locally. Thank you again for your reply.

These were put out by the Mercury label. I'm not sure of their real worth because the 12 records can be downloaded for free on discogs.com.

Hi Mark. I just emailed a friend of mine who knows a great deal about classical recordings (LPs in particular) and their values. Hopefully, he'll either respond here or send me a message which I will happily pass along. I'd hate to see you get "ripped off"!
Best wishes,
Petra
p.s. Downloads may be availbable but record officianodos will pay serious money for special things that are rare and/or they greatly desire so please don't let the "downloading option" effect your decisions (No insult intended Bliss!).

Mark,
I did ask my friend: he thought that you might be able to get maybe 50+GBP on eBay? I would do some more digging around however (if it were me). Good luck!
BTW, I would have thought that the master recordings would have been on tape? What's the date of the recording? Tried pulling it up again, but I can't find it!
Best, P.

This came out in CD form in 2000. Amazon is selling them for $100 new, about $40 for used. EBay is offering the LPs at a minimum bid of $140. The LPs are unused and in a binder. This may help you.

They sound like the ideal recordings to listen to whilst watching paint dry. Most people think their in-laws are a little bit weird for no good reason, just be thankful they have given you a good one.
