Hi. Does someone know Maurizio Baglini? What about him? He records for Decca-Italy. I am listenining to his two last Liszt recordings. He display a deep phantasy, unusual also for great masters. I think that it is not appreciated for his qualities.

Best,

I've never heard of him, but I hope he is as good as his near-namesake  Maurizio Pollini...

Just Google the name. There's plenty to read about him and a YouTube.

RE: Maurizio Baglini - Liszt

I'm afraid very few (if none) in this forum should know his art. After examining his discography, I found out I got, through my former subscription of Amadeus, his CD with the Cello Sonatas of Saint-Saens. My rather fading by now view is that the CD sounded very fine by some solid performance by both players, in a warm and lively recording. However, this CD is not such a characteristic one for appreciating his playing.

Unfortunately, Decca-Italia is difficult to get outside Italy and particularly for someone who has to move and travels often.

However, I won't be surprised at all, if you tell us how great he is. There are thousands of unsung heroes out there. Only in the triangle of China, South Korea and Japan, there are some hundreds (to say the least) of very accomplished, talented, gifted, even brilliant artists of Classical Music (soloists in every instrument, orchestras, chamber groups, conductors...) that are going to be known, cherished and celebrated only in their own territory.

You can get Decca-Italy cds from Amazon (at least from amazon.de) , or Qobuz.

Thanks, David, for the info. I'm not a kind of fan or customer of Amazon. I almost hate this sort of ordering. I prefer either the old fashioned record stores, anywhere in the world I may be found myself, or my regular suppliers in U.K., France, U.S. and Asia. However, when I decide to explore the art of Signor Baglini, I guess I may have to make an exception...

Unfortunately, I live in a small town of ca 300 inhabitants in the mountains of North Italy. A physical store is hard to find....
