recordings deserve to be released
what is the major companies policy about releasing their treasures?anybody knows that kempe meistersinger is exellent but it is out of release for many years.there are many other examples that are truly shameful(out of stock for years or never released):
emi:klemperer bruckner5,8,9-schumann symphonies-figaro&cosi/kempe beethoven/jochum beethoven/boult brahms/christoff complete mussorgsky songs/many recordings by kletzki,silvestri...
dg:santini don carlo/fricsay hollander,figaro -beethoven5,7/jochum lohengrin/bohm tchaikovsky4,6...
decca-philips:kubelik brahms vpo/many ansermet recordings(it is funny that instead of decca you should get them from austrailian eloquence in so-so sound)/schmidt isserstedt beethoven/van beinum bruckner5,7,8,9(not in two van beinum boxes!)/monteux eroica(not in box!)/schippers macbeth with nilsson&taddei
rca:there are many recordings by munch, leinsdorf, reiner, monteux that you should only find on japanese editions
these and many like them were critically acclaimed recordings of their day and are not worse than many recent reissues either sonically or artistically.(name solti beethoven3.5.7 vpo or meistersinger vpo)
more examples?

Some of the recordings you mention have been available ; I have the Fricsay Hollander on a DG two CDs for one set, and the Christoff Mussorgsky songs was in my public library on Long Island. But I don't know if these were available in the UK. But unfortunately, there was no libretto or tranlation with the Fricsay.

The Santini Don Carlos was released last year as part of a Verdi La Scala box set by DG which also included Kubelik's Rigoletto, Votto's 2nd Ballo, Votto's Traviata with Scotto & Serafin's Trovatore. The rest were Abbado's recordings of Macbeth, Boccanegra, Aida & Requiem with Ricciarelli, Verrett, Domingo & Ghiaurov. Well worth seeking out if there are copies still available. I mainly bought it for Don Carlos as I already have some of the recordings. Only the Ballo is disappointing but it is worth having for Stella's Amelia and especially Bastianni's Renato.

In 1999 Disky released a 3 CD box of Boult's Brahms' recordings of the Symphonies, Overtures, Variations, and Alto Rhapsody licensed from EMI. I have no idea if it is still available. They also issued a 10 CD box of music conducted by Constantin Silvestri, again licensed from EMI. Have you checked Arkivmusic.com? They have (at last count) 8735 Cds licensed from major labels.

Thanks for your valuable informations but you can not find a copy of many of these releases anywhere(fricsay hollander or mussorgsky songs).I agree completely about Alwyn 1812&... It is one of the best recordings of these pieces , the sound is exellent even on old lps . A reminder of this neglected conductor talents.Truly worth an originals!

You should be able to obtain the Schippers Macbeth from AchivMusic.com. It will be a reproduction but that shouldn't deter you as full liner notes are provided as well as a libretto and original artwork. Unfortunately the opera is cut but if you don't mind this I wouldn't count on Decca re-releasing it any time soon, if at all.

Thanks a lot!I know that some of these recordings have been released by arkive and disky, but really I can not satisfy myself with reproductins .I think that they deserve more.

The Alwyn is available as a FLAC or MP3 download from Pristine Audio and still sounds superb.

I believe the URL is arkivmusic.com, not archivmusic.com. This website has probably the best selection of classical CDs and DVDs on the internet.

Good thread. What a wasted opportunity these web-based download sites seem to be if the major companies can't put their whole back catalouge on.
My personal wants include:
Philips:
Verdi Requiem by Colin Davis with Carol Vaness (voted second best when reviewed on CD Review Building a Library).
The Christina Deutekom Verdi Recital.
DG:
The Sandor Konya Puccini Recital.
Decca:
The Varviso Norma with Elena Souliotis (currently available in Japan only).
EMI:
Get those Klemperer Mozart operas in a box set soon please. The Cosi and Figaro are great.
These things take time though - think how long the Berstein Rosenkavalier and the Jochum Cosi were out of the catalouge.

Wasn't the Sir Colin Davis Verdi Requiem on R.C.A. ? I haven't heard it, but I don't recall it being on Philips, unless he made another recording for that label.

I'd like to add a few favourite recordings of my own which have never even made it onto CD (to the best of my knowledge)!
1. Tchaikovsky 1812/Capriccio Italien/Marche Slave LSO/Alwyn/Decca. (1958) A real "Decca Legend" if ever there was one, but only so far available on CD as a Japanese import.
2. Verdi; Rigoletto (Philips) Capecchi/d'Angelo/Tucker. A well reviewed set, one of of my favourite versions. Philips reissued many of these 50's Naples sets in the '80s, but never this one.
3. Dvorak "New World" VPO/Bohm. (DG, late 1970s) Yes, it's very Old World, cosy and gemutlich to a fault, but the Largo is just gorgeous.
Fortunately my LP copies are all in good condition, but it puzzles me why they've never been available on CD.
There must be many others...
