RE: recordings deserve to be released

Yes it was RCA.  My mistake.  While we're on the RCA subject a re-release of the entire RCA Victor Opera Series on Budget Price would be good.  It's easy to find some but not others.  The Moffo Thais for example is hard to get a hold of as is the Orfeo with Shirley Verrett.

"The Moffo Thais" :) I think I like this forum... Just as the Karajan Parsifal, never heard it. Encountered this youtube video of someone playing that RCA (70s pressing?) record. The first three minutes are actually quite nice, flowing legato pours though the needle. Then disaster strikes... Is this a record made in a later part of her career? Anyway, here is the record:

I know the Moffo "Thais" by legend only, and I have to say this excerpt (while not in the Fleming class by a long chalk) wasn't as bad as I was fearing. I'd buy it!

We're straying onto the Awful Recordings thread here, but has anyone heard the DG "Werther", with an absurdly miscast Elena Obrastzova as Charlotte sounding like Azucena in a bad mood? Pity, because Domingo and Chailly are both excellent.

Accoring to the late Christopher Raeburn, Decca has in its vaults a sensational 'Rite of Spring' by the LSO under Solti - far better, in his view, than the Chicago version, which is itself pretty good.

Well, she was nearly 70 when she did this concert, so... brava! I don't think she ever sang Ortrud in "Lohengrin", which is a great pity... she was never one of nature's Charlottes, even in her prime.

This thread is turning into "Recordings that deserve to be buried forever" !

So would I! Especially if it was a surround SACD!

There's so much lovely quadraphonic stuff from the 70s languishing in valults never heard since the LP days - maybe some of it never heard at all.  Is it true the Solti Tannhäuser & Karajan Butterfly were recorded for Quad, but never released as such?

Moffo as Thaïs was quite good - I know the YouTube clip is unreliable, but she seems louder than everyone else.  Did they put a microphone under her nostril? Seriously though, that recording should not be consigned to the dustbin of history - even if only for the outstanding Bacquier.

Not to forget a young Carreras with a beautifull tone.

Come Rca give us this recording on CD!
