The best Mahler recordings
Just
read the articles. Rather surprised that there is hardly any word
written nor any reference to Mahler's link with Amsterdam and especially
the Concertgebouw Orchestra. Besides that Haitink should certainly be
in the list of leading "Mahlerians" so should be the RCO.
We can't argue about taste. Still the recording of Mahler's fifth with the RCO conducted by Ricardo Chailly should be in the list. Musically, technically and artistically the recording breaths Mahler.
When you hear and listen to the RCO life it feels as if Mahler is still standing in front of the orchestra.

Thanks I only today re-joined the forum, a lot of catching up to do. Never mind we'll see. It is worth the try.

I just joined, and coincidentally this was a question I was meaning to research as well, as I am conscious that I have heard and own very little Mahler. However I shall take Parla's note to heart and search the archives thoroughly before asking any questions!
As regards catching up, I've been reading through a number of past threads and unfortunately there is something of a pattern of discussions here descending into rather ill-humoured argument, well off the original topic. Boomviolin, if you are reading a long thread and it turns to argument, take my advice and give up on it, some of these 'you did! I didn't! you did!' discussions go on for page after page and they don't come back on topic.

Thanks. Another thread has started in the "General Discussion". Plenty of chance to read and fire some responses.

This issue of "best" Mahler (Symphonies or recordings) has been saturated in this forum.
Let's see whether forum members wish to repeat themselves.
