Ok, it's not 'classical' - but great music is great music :-).

I am listening to that wonderful vintage recording of l'incoronazione di Poppea from Glyndebourne conducted by John Pritchard. The singers are Magda Laszlo, Richard Lewis, & Frances Bible. Not really complete or up to latest ideas of early instrument practices but thoroughly enjoyable nonetheless.

Prokofiev - String Quartets Nos 1 & 2, Sonata for Two Violins - Pavel Haas Quartet
Prokofiev may not have been a 'natural' chamber music composer, but it hardly matters on this terrific recording - it's so full of energy and life, and the opening allegro of the first SQ is just irresistible.

The eagerly awaited volume 3 of Vincent d'Indy's orchestral works.
I love the two first volumes. Interesting music with a very own tone of voice (Wagner in a French monastery), good orchestra and very well recorded by Chandos. Chapeau! It's the kind of CD's still love to buy! The complete CD can be heard on the page of the Dutch radio 4:

And? What do you think of this series?

Good afternoon from a warm Maui, Hawaii. I have just adjourned for lunch after having listened to the wonderful recording of the Beethoven Violin Concerto performed by Josef Wolfsthal on Pearl GEMM CD 9387. Dating from 1928, the soloist who lived only to the age of 31 years, and passed away in 1931, played using a very different technique used by the majority of violinists in the earlier years of the 20th century. Initially I thought I was listening to Milstein. Wolfsthal's playing was superb. Irvine Shamrock

Saint-Saëns Symphony no.3 (Organ Symphony) - Detroit SO, Paul Paray conducting, Marcel Dupré at the organ. Mercury Living Presence 1991 re-issue.

The closing Maestoso-Allegro is terrific morning music :-)

The wonderful Claudio Arrau playing Chopin Piano Concertos 1 & 2 with the LPO and Eliahu Inbal on Philips Classics. Superb readings with some beautifully poetic playing from Arrau, always one of my favourite pianists.

Stephen Hough's fairly recent 'In Recital' disc on Hyperion. A very well programmed disc with excellent recorded sound and some magical playing.

I'm listening to Iannis Xenakis Metastaseis, a work that the composer truly considered as his Opus 1 and that is for me one the cornerstone of contemporary music. You can find it on a CD Xenakis, Works for Orchestra, vol.5 from that beautiful independant label Timpani.
