Making music - coast to coast

Most of what I see on Facebook concerns my friends who are too busy to get together, too busy to rehearse, only have a window of five minutes for a phone meeting, yet have enough time to post things like "Such-and-such is going to bed."

On the other hand, it's a handy way for me to learn about events I otherwise would not know about, including one featuring the terrific Bay Area pianist Eliane Lust, who's never at a loss for inventive programming at unconventional venues.

So if you're in or around San Francisco and vicinity this Sunday, take a breather in gorgeous Point Reyes Station, at the Dance Palace (503 "B" Street), from 4pm to 6pm. Eliane will play an amazingly varied all-tango program, which she describes as "Tangos, tangos, tangos, abstract intellectual tangos, heart-on-the-sleeve romances, passionate pillowtalk tangos, solitude-cafe cold-coffee tangos, hot new tangos of every kind by Cage, Elkjer, Satie, Joplin, Milhaud, Miller, Pender and more."

“After the hot tangos we'll have hot food in the hot sunshine at Station House Cafe (they are hot and take reservations and we plan to sit outside.) Please though do get your hot driving directions to the hot Dance Palace from the hot concert site at www.dancepalace.org (not Google) or they say you'll be very late taking the hot highway #1 scenic route there! For more hot info also call (415) 663-1075."

I wish I could be there, but I'm preparing for our annual Make Music New York music bash on Cornelia Street, Monday June 21st from 6 PM to 7:30pm, where I'll be leading a free outdoor performance of Terry Riley's minimalist manifesto In C, in joyful anticipation of the composer's 75th birthday just a few days later (June 24th). We have a pretty full and diverse group of instrumentalists and singers on hand, and if you want to join in, sign up here.

Looking forward to hearing from you.
