New York’s Metropolitan Opera will screen Wagner’s complete Ring cycle in cinemas worldwide for the first time throughout the spring and summer. Robert Lepage’s new Ring production, conducted by James Levine and Fabio Luisi, stars such big names as Bryn Terfel as Wotan, Deborah Voigt as Brünnhilde, Eva-Maria Westbroek as Sieglinde and Jonas Kaufmann as Siegmund.

Screenings will begin in the United States and Canada on May 7 with Wagner’s Dream, a documentary by filmmaker Susan Froemke about the creation of the new staging. These will be followed on May 9 by the first opera of the cycle, Das Rheingold.

The entire four-part opera and the documentary will be shown worldwide in countries including Argentina, Australia, Austria, Belgium, Chile, Colombia, the Czech Republic, Estonia, Finland, France, Germany, Greece, Hungary, Ireland, Japan, Mexico, New Zealand, Norway, Peru, Spain, Switzerland, and the United Kingdom (where the works will be shown in June and July).

Tickets go on sale in the US on March 30 and in Canada on April 6. For more information see www.metopera.org/liveinhd.
