The Choir of Gonville and Caius, Cambridge, have become known for releasing recordings on the Delphian label which have taken listeners beyond the more usual repertoire of Cambridge college choirs. Their most recent release, however, called ‘Set upon the rood’, is perhaps the most intriguing yet. Contemporary composers - including Sir James MacMillan - were invited to write works for ancient instruments. In the latest Gramophone podcast, the college’s music director Geoffrey Webber tells Editor Martin Cullingford about the project.

You can download the podcast by visiting Gramophone's page at iTunes where you'll also find many other episodes to enjoy, and where you can subscribe (for free) to future podcasts. Alternatively, you can listen to the Podcast below.

Musical excerpts throughout the podcast are taken from ‘Set upon the rood’, which is released on the Delphian label, and reviewed in the September issue of the magazine.
