Multi award-winning tenor and conductor Plácido Domingo is adding his famous name to a new festival, launching this month. The inaugural Plácido Domingo Festival will run from October 25 to November 3 in Andalucía, Spain, featuring high-profile stars including Vittorio Grigolo, Ana María Martínez, Nino Machaidze, Pinchas Zukerman, Danielle De Niese and Nina Kotova.

Domingo himself will star in the festival opening performance of Massenet’s Thaïs, a fully-staged production at the Maestranza Theatre in Seville, co-starring sopranos Nino Machaidze and Micaëla Oeste, accompanied by the Real Orquesta Sinfónica de Sevilla. Domingo will also conduct an Opera Gala in Malaga featuring tenor Vittorio Grigolo, Ana María Martínez and guitar virtuoso Ángel Romero.

There will be chamber concerts in the Real Slcázar in Seville featuring, successively, violinist Pinchas Zuckerman, Ángel Romero and cellist Nina Kotova, and soprano Danielle De Niese, plus orchestral performances by Orquesta Filarmónica de Málaga with soloists including Zuckerman and pianist Joaquín Achúcarro.

‘I am thrilled that such wonderful and highly accomplished guest artists will join me for my inaugural festival,’ said Domingo. ‘ These will be my first performances in the culturally rich and historically important cities of Seville and Malaga in a number of years, and I am hugely excited at the prospect of returning there, as well as establishing my own festival in my beloved homeland.’
