Oh such a pity that this once vibrant forum of friends and adversaries has become moribund.
Where have all the active, funny and interesting contributors gone? Guess, like me they got tired of banging their heads against a brick wall, it's nice when you stop.
I do miss it all though.

Indeed, it does appear to have become rather quiet around the forum theses days.
No dobut the visits by the trolls turned some of us off, but they have long gone.
Just one or two worthy characters continue to persist, although mostly in German references to Wagner.
What is wrong?
Perhaps the most recent contribution on a new thread "Compression verus art" within Audio and Video Equipment strand is an indicator of where debate could be conducted, and has indeed occupied some of us in the past, often with heated exchanges.
On the other hand, there is a proposal, in the strand About the site, to establish an entirely new forum devoted to streaming devices which should be only open to those in favour of streaming. This is intended to exclude those who hold other views and might disturb the converted.
Perhaps this is as disturbing as the visits of the trolls. What is the point of a forum when one cannot exchange ideas, differ from time to time, and explore these differences?
If you want a closed club, your best option is to go elsewhere.
To stream or not to stream is a real issue in the broader world despite the forecasted inevitability of the end of other sources and the utopia of a streamed world. During recent visits to hifi dealers in France and the Netherlands I have had fascinating discussions with 'experts' = salesmen, on the different paths ahead. One young French enthusiast of valves was convinced that "wireless is less", yet another was a "Qubus must survive" supporter. In a Dutch town yesterday, I encountered similar views at two different dealers. So let us debate.
For example, the reason for my visits to dealers at the moment is that my ancient Dynaudio Audience 9 loudspeakers might need replacing, but I found the bass on the latest replacement models not up to scratch. I suggested to one dealer that the bass drivers on the Audience 9 were much larger. He told me that this was not the case. On my return home I confirmed that the Audience 9 drivers are 24 cms in diameter compared to the current 18 cms. Boxes are also much smaller these days and far less impressive visually. I did hear yesterday that the "KEF sound today is not the KEF sound of 30 years ago". Is this the same with Dynaudio? Must be a host of issues related to audio equipment, streamers, chromecast, etc. that keep us occupied and on which we have different opinions. I wish to benefit from the views of others.
And, as for the music? Long live early music! Viol da gamba is a good solo instrument to test the bass on speakers, What would be good speakers for my taste? Constructive suggestions please.
To avoid thread drift I will happily answer about speakers in the gear section.

There are, of course, many more people out there reading the forum that actually posting - especially as it's Googleable - and I've found it useful to see what people are saying here on and off for some years without posting.
(There was also a bug in the registration system when I tried to register a few days ago - but was fixed promptly after pointing it out.)
