Pianist Claudio Arrau wasn't a flexible artist, for example I've heard that he had serious difficulties with conductor Rafael Kubelik when both recorded Brahms's 1rst piano concerto for ORFEO label in the sixties, but I don't know practically nothing about Arrau-Karajan relation, I've only could read that he worked together in Canterbury Music Festival in 1954, and at that time seems Arrau refuses to play with Karajan's accompaniment in Schumann's Op. 54 piano concerto, and did it finally only to avoid prejudicing the event, but after that ocassion he refused to play with Karajan newly. Instead, I know that he maintained a cordial relationship with Otto Klemperer, in my opinion also a complex and uncompromising personality.
Is that right o not?
Could someone give to us more information about the incident?
Excuse my english please. Best regards.
