A complete live performance by the Frankfurt Radio Symphony Orchestra and Andrés Orozco-Estrada

The Frankfurt Radio Symphony Orchestra's YouTube channel continues to present some wonderful live performances. A couple of weeks ago we featured their account of Prokofiev's First Symphony conducted by François Leleux, today it is a complete performance of Bartók's Concerto for Orchestra conducted by the orchestra's current Music Director Andrés Orozco-Estrada. Orozco-Estrada is also the Music Director of the Houston Symphony and Principal Guest Conductor of the London Philharmonic Orchestra.

If you would like to explore a classic recording of the Concerto for Orchestra for comparison, try Iván Fischer's with the Budapest Festival Orchestra (on Philips), which our reviewer Andrew Achenbach says is filled with 'tingling spontaneity, adrenalin-fuelled virtuosity (the finale’s main presto shoots off like a rocket), heartache (unforgettably plangent strings in the Elegia – here, as elsewhere, some tastefully judged portamento proves a boon), wicked humour and attractive local colour.'
