It was one of those concerts, which happen all too infrequently, in which the music being performed sent shock waves through the audience: the first performance in Carnegie Hall of Steve Reich's hardcore minimalist Four Organs. Michael Tilson Thomas and Reich were playing two of the four organ parts that evening, and in the video below they recall with delight the storm of outrage which began to build as the performance progressed...
