Mischa Maisky has a long history with Tchaikovsky's Rococo Variations. He has recorded the work twice for DG, firstly (in 1991) with the Philharmonia Orchestra and conductor Giuseppe Sinopoli ('a splendid account', according to Gramophone's Michael Kennedy), and secondly (in 1997) with the conductorless Orpheus Chamber Orchestra.
The Frankfurt Radio Symphony Orchestra has just posted a complete performance of the Rococo Variations on their Youtube channel, and Maisky and conductor Paavo Järvi make for a fascinating partnership. The performance was recorded live in April and, as with all Frankfurt RSO videos, the production quality is excellent. Enjoy the complete video below:
