Music in the city, in the summer!
The 2012 Toronto Summer Music Festival is three weeks jam-packed with world-class classical music experiences at three venues: Koerner Hall (Royal Conservatory of Music), Water Hall (University of Toronto) and Hart House (University of Toronto). This year’s festival programming follows the Romantic spirit as it spread across Europe from its birthplace in Germany and Austria.
We will explore the music of Russia, France, England, Bohemia, and Vienna – the very birthplace of Romanticism – through the stirring and expressive works of Tchaikovsky, Borodin, Fauré, Chausson, Elgar, Bridge, Dvorák, Smetana, Brahms, Schumann and others.
To help us on this grand musical journey, we have amassed a stellar line-up of world-renowned artists, including baritone Gerald Finley, violinist Scott St John, the Vienna Piano Trio, The Nash Ensemble, pianist André Laplante, The Borodin String Quartet, violinist Pinchas Zukerman and the Zukerman Chamber Players, the Seoul Spring Festival Ensemble from Korea, and many more.
These artists, together with the gifted participants of the TSMF Academy, will fill the warm summer air with the sounds of glorious music, and create magical experiences you won’t want to miss!
