The 50 concerts during this year’s Verbier Festival contain the ingredients which have established the event’s unique reputation over the past 18 years: extraordinary musical encounters between leading classical artists, a fine selection of young soloists, and carefully chosen repertoire which blends classical masterpieces, new works and world music.
Many outstanding artists will return to Verbier this summer, including Martha Argerich, Joshua Bell, Daniel Harding, Nikolaï Lugansky, Mischa Maisky, Denis Matsuev, Menahem Pressler, Yuja Wang and many more. The public will also have the opportunity to discover new faces including notable Verbier Festival debuts by Rolando Villazón, Simone Dinnerstein, Daniil Trifonov and Kate Royal.
Two concert performances of operas Le Nozze di Figaro and Pelléas et Mélisande with star casts will be central to the Festival. Audiences are also invited outside the western classical music world to enjoy Anoushka Shankar’s irresistible sitar melodies and the bewitching gypsy rhythms of Roby Lakatos and his band. A special highlight will be the retro sensation Pink Martini on August 1.
