Repeat for Vic

Because some posts have intervened, I ask you the same question again.

Vic, you wrote 'Stick to music Chris. On that ground you retain your dignity.'

So my question to you Vic is this: are you willing to do the same?

If so we may be in business.

The answer to this question is either 'yes' or 'no'.

Lest there be any doubt about it, I am willing!

This is obfuscation.  Each individual makes his or her contribution on principle not as part of a numbers game.

Parla and I are exchanging ideas about a non-musical issue at the moment.  Is this part of the prohibition you wish me to agree to Chris?

You seem unwilling to recognise that there might be something else at stake here.  If I read your tone aright there seems to be personal edge to it.  If so, can I remind you that I called you "misguided" and you called me "evil".  There's a disproportion here that even a BBC commentator on the West Bank issue might recognise.  Or perhaps not.

On the other forum

A moderator works well on H.

Fraz Jo - disapntd. Bn ringin this grl al week. No ansr...looks lke she changed her mnd. O well...Ldwg...

Vic, I take that as a 'no'.

Vic, I take that as a 'no'.

After all, it was you, Vic, who urged me to stick to musical issues, but never mind that (LOL). I had hoped that Jane's helpful comment might have borne fruit, but I suppose it might have been the triumph of hope over experience.

For what it's worth, Jane, you wrote that "the great silence probably is the reason why the discord stands out so much" but my personal view is that it is the other way round: the small number of contributors is a consequence of this ongoing 'mayhem'. I'm afraid that in trying to return the Forum to some sort of normalcy I may have contributed to that mayhem, and hence to the reduction in numbers.

One thing is clear to me, however long Vic persists in his assault on Parla, without the intervention of a moderator it will simply continue unabated. There will be no end to it. So why Vic doesn't want a moderator to appear is an interesting question.

Speaking of Parla, I would like to comment that in all the unpleasant dialogue of the last days, it is he who has retained his calm and dignity throughout. Well done Parla. (I know this will annoy Vic, but I don't think that's a good enough reason not to say it.)

So for me, it's either a moderator (not a censor) who's ruling I would willingly accept, whatever it is, or else I'll follow Vic's advice and concentrate on the music and leave the Forum as a battleground to those for whom the war is more important.

Chris

PS: Jane, concerning those Mozart symphonies, Harnoncourt must surely have taken the word oratorium from Bach and his Weinachtsoratorium: a set of six cantatas intended for the six feast days of Christmas. Food for thought.

Whyever do you think that the Forum does not have moderation?  I assume that any breach of Forum rules would be moderated as it has been in the past.

Calm down dear. It's only a music forum.

How about the dialogue on this page? Would you want that "moderated away" Chris?

Message no.2 to Vic.

Unfortunately, the "numbers" count more than the "principle" in a result-oriented world we live today, because they can make a difference and this is not a game. It's the reality check.

If we take into account that these "numbers" can easily be directed/guided, then, one can imagine what the contribution of "each individual" means.

Of course, in this forum, things can be a bit more different, so that each   contribution might have some impact, as long as we stick to the music. (At least, we can retain something valuable each one of us. Possibly, even you Vic).

Parla

Message to Chris.

I think your decision (to stick to the music), Chris, is fair and smart, albeit somehow difficult to keep it all the way, as long as the "battleground" exists. It is a quite disruptive thing.

Anyway, welcome back and...bon courage!

Parla

Hang on.

Hang on Parla. Still work in progress. We'll see.

If only for its unintentional

If only for its unintentional hilarity, this is by far the best thread on this forum. Like witnessing a debate between arsonists on the need for greater police and fire brigade vigilance.
