PS: Jane, concerning those Mozart symphonies, Harnoncourt must surely have taken the word oratorium from Bach and his Weinachtsoratorium: a set of six cantatas intended for the six feast days of Christmas. Food for thought.

Precisely why you are needed on this forum!

Thanks Jane. Perhaps you

Thanks Jane. Perhaps you could be more successful than I in encouraging Vic to enter the spirit you are trying so hard to engender.  That's all I'm waiting for.

I repeat: This is obfuscation.   I wonder if Parla thinks Martin Niemoller - in fact anyone asked to make a decision - should have decided that numbers count more than principle.

Debating with such logic is pointless.  Exposing it however is not.  Even if it is thought arson.

...and

....And not "in the spirit".

Yeah, but he's a megalomanic tyrant. And that's no good either!

I've got a feeling I know who you mean Bazil. Is he the bloke who looks like a seventy year-old bank manager?

I can't remember if this has been tried before or not.......but what if we at least restrict our inter-personal conflicts to designated threads? We stick, rigorously and perhaps even religiously, to music on music threads. And, when we feel the need to point out that somehow has been rude or needlessly sanctimonious or whatever, we go straight to the designated "Grievance" thread. That way, those who want to read and take part in that kind of thing can, and those that don't can simply get on with the music related stuff.

That doesn't mean we can't disagree or poke (polite) fun at each other on music threads. It just means we take our more enduring and deeply felt grievances to a different place.

How about that Vic and Chris.....and anyone else? As far as I can see, it still allows Vic to say what he wants to say and it allows Chris to focus on the music, without having to be distracted or frustrated by inter-personal conflicts.

Can we build a consensus around this?

In theory a great idea jane

In theory a great idea jane except it's been tried before at least once, and failed. To quarantine the disease you have to capture it at source and unfortunately he, sorry, it, eventually infects every thread.

Apparently, statues of Bazza are springing up all around the country. The one I saw was celebrating the moment he returned from exile in Zurich to address the leaders of the uprising.

Nice girls love a tyrant.

Nice girls love a tyrant. Send 'em away and they keep coming back for more. Guess they just like to be dominated.
