What's happened to the Forum?

After many month's absence I don't recognise this site!  Why no link to the Forum from the website?  Why so hard to find your way around now?  Why hardly any recent posts?  Why do most topics have no replies?  Why seemingly random postings head up a topic? (One of mine from months ago!) Where are all the posters?  What happened to Parla?  I'm confused!

Vic.

Hi Vic!

Hi Vic!

First of all, it's good to see that you still exist. You'd vanished from everywhere! I miss the interesting discussions of old, even - perhaps especially - the more contentious ones!

I've no idea what's happening about the Forum.  The new website opened once, prematurely, with an amost completely non-functional Forum included.  There were a lot of problems and they withdrew the Website altogether before bringing the website back sans Forum.  At the time they noted that there were still technical problems with the Forum but they hoped to re-open it 'soon'!  But still no sign: I contacted them a few weeks ago and Luca said they were still working on it.

The odd thing is you can still get in 'through the back door', as you and others (mostly spurious) have done!  But it's nowhere near 'working'.

Let's hope!  I haven't seen any substitute elsewhere.  Since 'Gramophone' magazine has improved considerably, I'm still hopeful - perhaps I'm an optimist. There's obviously still lots of work to be done, and not only with the Forum!

All the best,

Chris

I asked the same question on

I asked the same question on a different thread.  I've had no response there either.

Maybe they want to get rid of the forum altogether?

Hi Chris,

Yes, I'm pretty pleased I still exist too.

Thanks for the explanation.

I wonder when it will all be sorted?  Strange indeed.

Vic

The forum is back

Hi Chris and Vic,

Thank you for your understanding over the last couple of months. I know how you and many of our other readers value the community aspect of the website and we really did not intend for it to be offline for so long. As you can all tell the new version of the website is quite a bit more complex than the old site and there were several bugs we had to fix.

I am pleased to say that most of these have now been resolved including a number connected to the forum. If you or any of our other readers do spot any problems with the forum please let me know and I will see if we can get them resolved as soon as possible.

Apologies again for the delay and thank you for your patience and understanding. We are looking forward to get back in the swing of discussing all things classical music with you all.

Kind Regards,

Luca

Hi Chris and Vic,

Hi Chris and Vic,

I was just passing and thought I would see if anyone was at home! Nice to hear from you both. It's been weird not having the Gramophone forum, warts and all, over recent weeks. I hope that if it gets back into full swing there is a more convivial atmosphere!

In the meantime, the magazine is a great read. With a busy life I always have a back log of three issues with parts unread.

All the best for now,

Graham

It's good to see the Forum

It's good to see the Forum back, and good to hear from you too Graham. There still seem to be problems though.  It seems I can reply to a post easily enough (as now), but if I try to start a new thread, I cannot and am invited to subscribe to the reviews database. I suspect this is not what was intended.  Incidentally, I'm using Google Chrome on a Mac.  I've noticed that some problems seem to be specific to different platforms - ugh!

I'll try again shortly using Safari

I'm here too, hoping that

I'm here too, hoping that this forum might be in some kind of interesting order.

Thanks Vic for your interest in Parla.

Glad to see some old pals around.

We need some great good will to restart...Let's see...

Best wishes to all!

Parla

Welcome back all!

Welcome back all!

Dear Luca,

Dear Luca,

As you can see several of us have restarted discussions on the Forum.

Here is one urgent request:

Please, please give us back the EDIT button.

We need it!

Chris (and I'm pretty sure others will agree!).

Chris A.Gnostic

By all means, the "edit" button!

I can only second, to the greatest possible extent, Chris' urgent request. By all means, we need the "edit" button. At least!

(Later, you may consider to give us the "history" of our contribution to the forum through our posts, as well).
