Excommunication

Hi Jane. I can't think why you'd be excommunicated from H111. You were a reader rather than a poster if you don't mind me saying, so obviously you haven't posted anything untoward...

PS Jane, I've just noticed your thread on the Schubert masses. Not an oeuvre of his I'm familiar with, but I'm just looking at the six scores on IMSLP, so I might explore a bit further...

Fraz Jo - disapntd. Bn ringin this grl al week. No ansr...looks lke she changed her mnd. O well...Ldwg...

I think it must have been for

I think it must have been for something I wrote on this site. I made a joke about B locking down one of Vic's threads........

As to the Schubert masses, I need to do some exploring too. I know odd movements here and there, but I can't say I know any of the masses well. I have read a bit about them over the years, and the consensus seems to be that the last one (E flat, D950) is a truly great masterpiece (possibly on a par with Beethoven's Missa Solemnis) and that D678 (A flat) probably is a masterpiece (very original, anyway, and typically Schubertian) and that the others (including the very conservative late mass D872, the Deutsche Messe), are a mixed bunch........

One of the problems (apart from his relative lack of experience here, plus his very early death) is that he obviously had trouble writing fugues, which usually play a big part in this tradition.......

Let's not exaggerate, Vic. I

Let's not exaggerate, Vic. I cannot recall more than a dozen of posters who, consistently, attacked me and claim my presence here as their reason of their departure. Another half dozen were somehow ambivalent and some others were thankful occasionally for my contributions...after all...

Anyway, if you admit that "a continuing holding to account can alienatge, bore, cause...", then we may agree to stop here. I trust you are not that "impervious" to that kind of reasoning...

Best wishes and congratulations on your proliferation of threads on Music.

That's pretty well the sum total of regular contributors, aside from .............

I counted one, not 'some'. Unless you're including newcomers who took a couple of weeks to figure you out.

I blieve you underestimate

I blieve you underestimate "the sum total" even of regular contributors of this forum, Tagalie. As for the "some", allow me to say that I know better whatever concerns Parla. However, this all negative set of exchanges does not serve any purpose, creating, often, enough side-effects.

A few thoughts

From my observations people who contribute to forums rarely confine themselves to just one and I have encountered several regular active and inactive Gramophone forum contributors elsewhere. To my mind there does not seem to be much value in conducting a postmortum on the reasons people have left. If there is to be a resurgence of activity on this forum people will come back if they see the benefits of contributing. I strongly recommend that everyone who genuinely wants to see a resurgence of activity on this forum thinks about why they want to contribute, what their expectations are and most importantly what value they can bring. Controversial debates and heated exchanges may well provide a certain amount of frisson and entertainment but in the end are counter productive. I detect a certain degree of satisfaction from some of the provacative posts in this thread. As for me, for the time being, there's considerably bettter elsewhere.

Oh, and I seem to have been excommunicated from the Other Site. I hope all that power hasn't gone to Bazza's head........

Yes, as someone else stated recently, trying to re-join that forum (purely to see the the extent of postings of former friends) access was denied to me too.  Blacklisted!  I'm flattered.  B seems to have a strange notion of what constitutes debate.  No loss to us anyway, is my view now.

It can be only a "malfunction

It can be only a "malfunction", Vic. Even in the "Kingdom of Heaven", things sometimes might go astray...

Perhaps you didn't use the quote function properly. He seems to get very upset when quotes are too big.

But yes......I do worry about him. Absolute power and all that.
