OK, I live in Leicester and my local classical CD shops are now in Nottingham and Leamington Spa. Can anyone tell me of of retailers (new or second-hand) in the Midlands, maybe an hour or two's drive away?

You're lucky! I live in Kent: the last good independent classical record shop, The Classical Longplayer in Canterbury, closed a few years ago, leaving none in the county to my knowledge. Even central London isn't great these days, though I was pleased to find a quite good classical CD section in Foyle's.
