Beethoven recording Search

Back in 1960, I purchased an LP of Beethovens 5th Piano Concerto produced by CBS as part of their 'Masterworks" series of Vinyl LPs. ( No. BLD 7130).   It was performed by Eugene Istomin with the Philodelphia Orcgestra conducted by Eugene Ormandy.

The opening bars are magnificent, but pretty much garbled by now and I would dearly like to replace it.  I have always believed it to be the finest recording of this piece and nothing I have heard since matches it.

I am now in the process of converting my collection of LPs to digital after 30 years of storage and, after purchasing a decent turntable am absolutely swept away by the quality of reproduction of these vinyls.  It's not surprising the vinyl LPs are making a comeback, but storage, mobility, space and convenience are the driving factors in my case.  However, the vinnyl LPs are going nowhere but back into storage for future enjoyment.

Could anyone help me in finding a replacement recording of this LP.  It appears on several websites, but I always receive a different recording in the post which I have to return.  Personally, I think that is dodgy practice, but that's life these days.

I see the single LP version (of course, used) on Amazon US and the 12 CD Istomin box set on Amazon UK and Presto Classical.

I've used both those

I've used both those resources and found that, a) the Amazon source was not the Istomin/Philaelphia version and, b) the CD set was not either.

Thanks for your  reply.

The 12 CD set definitely contains the said Emperor.

Why, yes it is.

Why, yes it is.

Thankyou for pointing this out.  I don't know where I got the imprrssion that it wasn't.

I'm very grateful.

Read the Amazon UK customer review section. It says the stereo tape was either damaged or lost, so it is mono that is in the box.. at least according to the guy.

It sounded fine on Spotify when I checked it before replying to you.
