The gender of the noun (in german) cannot always prevail, when we cannot assume the gender of the person referred to. Speaking of "spirits", in any case, it won't matter that much either...

Of course, in german (and not only) the grammatical gender prevails, but when we start dealing with "shadows" and "spirits" in a forum where one can "assume" almost nothing and almost anything goes, even grammar of the so strict german language won't matter...(The posts of tjh and mine reflect, in one or the other way, this frustrating, albeit entertaining, situation).
