Jill Crossland

On page 78 of the awards 2013 issue of the Gramophone I spotted an advert for the "devine art" label. Never bought a CD from them, but, was always curious about their artists. The new record by pianist Jill Crossland is not on Spotify yet, but her earlier CD's are. Strange practice, her CD's were first issued on a label called "calico" and now, 10 years later re-released on devine art. Jill is technically not the most advanced pianist in the world, no supersonic touché or glittering keyruns (that and the second movement of op110 could sparkle just a fraction more) the rest of the Beethoven sonata is actually quite nice. Weird intererventions that work right for me. Curious what you think of the performance!

RE: Jill Crossland

I have almost all the recordings of Jill Crossland, Rolf. I miss only her Rameau one and I'm waiting for the new one. She is a consistent Bach and Classical period pianist. She is not the perfect one, but her Bach and a bit of Mozart sound quite fine in my equipment. The Beethoven works are a bit uneven, but, still, she manages to convey her artistry and musicianship. Her Fortepiano recital is also very intriguing (the famous Scarlatti Sonata K.380 is played very convincingly, while she seems to be in cracking form).

I hope you may explore more of her recordings.

RE: Jill Crossland

I enjoyed Jill Crosssland's Mozart & Beethoven sonatas disc & would recommend it. I think I mentioned it on here somewhere once. The new one looks interesting with more Beethoven.

Happy new 2014, everyone!

Explored more of Jill Crossland during the hollidays and found some very fresh Rameau recordings, and indeed the Fortepiano recordings. Links here:
