Musical recommendation

Hello. I am posting this message to enquire about a recommendation for music for a new listener to the classical. To explain, I come from an interest in symphonic progressive music (such groups like Yes and Genesis and Mars Volta) and look for some music that corresponds maybe to this. You see, already I try the most famous ones (such as Mozart and Beethoven) but this for me is perhaps too "dry" or rather not really so rich the sound as I desire.

I look forward to see your suggestion!

RE: Musical recommendation

MAR, take a look at the 'Classical music newbie' thread in the General Discussion forum. All the advice you'll ever want, and then some. When you've digested that, if there's any clarification needed come back to this thread.

RE: Musical recommendation

As a fan of Genesis and Yes, you may find Mahler of some interest. Probably symphony No 5. It's a big but rewarding step into 'classical' music.

Is that what they're calling Prog Rock these days?

Remember the Rick Wakeman solo on Fragile? Find a good recording of the Brahms 4th Symphony. Herbert Von Karajan is a typical go to for this symphony but the recording techniques may seem a little dated. At least this way, you can start with something that you will recognize.

Wakeman and Karajan would make the perfect team. Shallow, vain, narcissistic and reputation inflated far above their talent. Set the cameras up and watch them perform like little chimps.

I thought so. He's back. Sooner or later the mask comes off.

Yes, and have you spotted the other one here too?  He is a busy lad.

And imagine having to play such game in order to get some attention.  I'm beginning to think it's more sad than pathetic.

Now I come to think about it, where's Parla's condemnation of Brodsky's "digressions"?

Vic.

RE: Musical recommendation

You don't get it, Vic, do you?

If I have to condemn "Brodsky's digressions", I should condemn even further those familiar "faces" who don't miss the chance to exploit his "presence" in the forum by digressing completely off-topic and prolonging the original "offense".

Come on Parla, you must condemn as Vic requires. You won't be allowed back into the little gang.

I thought you and Brodsky were mates? More than once, up against the wall as usual, you've referenced him as a supporter. You have to be careful, Parla, one friend is offnet right now, you don't want to alienate the other.
