Who are the great Verdian sopranos of our age?

Rosalind Plowright

I hardly think that reference to Rosalind Plowright as "fleetingly brilliant" is accurate. Her first foray into Verdi was as Leonora in Il Trovatore in 1979 which won her the 7th International Singing Competition in Sofia, Bulgaria. She continued performing Verdi soprano roles until her last in 1995 as Lady Macbeth. During this time Rosalind Plowright was a dominant force and a truly acclaimed Verdi performer adding a total of 12 total roles, recording 4 (Forza, Trovatore, Stiffelio and Otello) and also the Requiem.  Fleeting?  I think not.
