Your name is Katalin Kertész? And you play violin? Then you must be related to…

It's the Veit string quartets and Haydn quartets with the "other" Istvan Kertesz. 

 

Curious what you think of these works!

Kertesz, Festetics and Veit.

Yes, there is more than one Istvan Kertesz. She seemed, as a violinist, to be related to the Festetics String Quartet first violinist as she is the first violinist of this new String Quartet.

As for Veit's two first recorded (by the ground-breaking label Toccata) String Quartets, I found them worth the try to explore them. Apart from a certain degree of originality, they are well structured and they reveal how many other great composers of the late Classical and the early Romantic eras still have to be discovered.

P.S.: By the way, what happened to the fine Amsterdam String Quartet? They have recorded two excellent SACDs of Haydn Quartets (on Channel) and, then, they...vanished. That might be the fate of today's groups. The level is high but...
