D. Hvorostovsky (bar)
Born: 1962

Dmitri Hvorostovsky
Winning the 1989 Cardiff Singer of the World competition launched Hvorostovsky’s career. Debuts at La Scala and Covent Garden followed in 1992 and his reputation was established. He is a highly regarded interpreter of Russian song.
A tribute by Renée Fleming:
'I am so pleased that Dmitri Hvorostovsky is to be inducted into the Gramophone Hall of Fame. Besides being a wonderful colleague, Dmitri possesses a voice with a quality of velvet that is both a joy to hear and immediately recognisable. Dmitri’s technique is impeccable – he has the best breath control I’ve ever encountered. He is a consummate musician. Add to this his charisma and committed portrayals, and you have a complete singing artist.'
