James Jolly's weekly playlist for Gramophone celebrates its 50th episode

Gramophone's weekly playlist exploring the most interesting classical releases, The Listening Room, is celebrating an important milestone – the 50th episode.

Every episode of The Listening Room is compiled by Gramophone's Editor-in-Chief James Jolly, and new episodes appear every Friday. The playlist series appears on Spotify and Apple Music and there is no better way to explore not just new recordings – including pre-release tracks – but to hear them side-by-side with classic albums.

The 50th episode features Mozart's Symphony No 40 performed by Ensemble Appassionato and Mathieu Herzog, an account that Jolly describes as 'swift, fleet of foot and bursting with energy'. There are also pre-release tracks by Cecilia Bartoli (singing Vivaldi), the Los Angeles Philharmonic Orchestra and Gustavo Dudamel (Tchaikovsky's The Nutcracker) and pianist Seong-Jin Cho (Mozart Piano Sonata No 3), plus much more. You can explore each new episode in The Listening Room blog.

The world of music streaming can feel confusing at times – with so much new music out there, what should you listen to next? Gramophone's The Listening Room was devised by James Jolly in order to help you find recordings that are truly exciting and interesting, recordings will set you on your own paths of musical discovery. Make sure you subscribe to The Listening Room on Spotify or Apple Music to never miss an episode.

Here's to the next 50!
