Venezuelan conductor Gustavo Dudamel has been named Gramophone’s Artist of the Year, in Gramophone’s only publicly-voted award.

The most celebrated product of the Venezuelan ‘Sistema’, Dudamel’s charismatic ability to inspire a life-long passion for music in young people, together with his passionate energy on the podium, has brought him international superstardom, as well as posts with the Los Angeles Philharmonic and Gothenburg Symphonies.

Dudamel won this worldwide online public vote ahead of musicians including Lang Lang, Mitsuko Uchida, Jonas Kaufmann and Alina Ibragimova.
