The Scottish Chamber Orchestra has announced that its principal conductor Robin Ticciati has extended his contract until at least 2018. This is the second time that the young conductor has signed a contract extension since taking up his position with the orchestra at the beginning of the 2009-10 season.

‘The more we work together, the more we want to explore music together,’ said Ticciati. ‘When I put our relationship in the context of our search for fresh ways of inspiring our existing audiences and our continued development of audiences abroad, it feels as if we have only just begun!’

Ticciati’s tenure with the SCO has thus far been characterised by Romantic repertoire from composers such as Berlioz and Brahms, and a special operatic opening to each season. This September the orchestra will launch its 40th anniversary year with a concert performance of Berlioz’s Beatrice and Benedict. There will also be a two-week performance cycle of the complete Schumann symphonies, which will be recorded for Linn records.

In other SCO news, it has been announced that HRH The Prince Charles, Duke of Rothesay will extend his patronage of the SCO until 2017. The Prince became patron of the orchestra in 2000.
