The joys of recording Mozart, and leading the Carl Nielsen International Competition

Nikolaj Znaider has completed his series of the Mozart violin concertos with the LSO for its own label, LSO Live, (the recording is released on November 16). Reviewing the earlier volume in May, Richard Wigmore commented that 'Nikolaj Znaider delights the ear with playing that mingles his trademark finesse with an impish exuberance so crucial to these works of Mozart’s teens. Everything has a specific, individual character'. And Vol 2, to be reviewed in our January issue, attracts similar praise.

For the latest Gramophone podcast, James Jolly caught up with Nikolaj Znaider recently in London to talk not only about the Mozart recordings but also to discuss the Carl Nielsen International Competition which Znaider won in 1992 and which he now steers in his roles as the competition's President.
