Quick! we have but a second Charles Villiers Stanford, Composer
Cambridge Singers
Charles Villiers Stanford, Composer
John Rutter, Conductor
This recital in the Great Hall of University College School, London, was recorded by the BBC Transcription Unit with an expertise matching that of this talented group of singers. The acoustic is very reverberant, just a little too much for my taste, adding several more to Quick! we have but a second but, on the other hand, providing a wonderful, enveloping atmosphere to some of the more appropriate pieces such as the entrancing Londonderry Air. The control exhibited by this choir is remarkable and the quality of the voices seems to me to be outstanding. A trace of glare on the sopranos is, I am sure, a characteristic of the building.'
