I thought this ''pretty dazzling'' on its first appearance and its transfer to Compact Disc brings the usual advantages of greater range and presence. Although at the time of its first appearance on LP, I found the balance less natural than the Philips version with Accardo and Sir Colin Davis, the sound is still splendidly alive. It faces two CD competitors, Pierre Amoyal (Erato) and Gidon Kremer (EMI), so far reviewed in the new medium. It must be said that Perlman outclasses most rivals here and certainly dazzles in his fill-up, the Sinding A minor Suite, which is something of a rarity. This he plays with a virtuosity that is breathtaking, and is not even surpassed by Heifetz himself. Both Amoyal and Kremer offer another concerto (Tchaikovsky and Schumann respectively), but neither is quite in this class.'
