Founded in 1987 by Klaus Heymann, Naxos established itself very quickly as the super-budget-price classical label. Initially it recorded extensively in Eastern Europe but now works with some of the world’s top orchestras and artists. It’s catalogue is extraordinarily broad, with some very obscure by-ways. It was named Gramophone’s Label of the Year in 2005 and won a Gramophone Award with Vasily Petrenko’s Manfred Symphony.
