Philips

Though no longer operating under the Philips trademark, the company’s back catalogue is owned by Universal Music Group. Founded in 1950 in the Netherlands as part of the electrical giant, Philips Industries, the label started by distributing labels including American Columbia and Mercury, but soon had an impressive roster of its own including the Concertgebouw Orchestra Beaux Arts Trio, Claudio Arrau, the Quartetto Italiano and conductors Bernard Haitink and Colin Davis. Among its many Gramophone Award-winners is Jessye Norman’s disc of Richard Strauss’s Four Last Songs.
