Classic FM's Managing Director to succeed Alan Davey at the Arts Council

Arts Council England have announced that Darren Henley will be their new Chief Executive, succeeding Alan Davey, who is to become BBC Radio 3's Controller next month

Henley, who is currently Managing Director of Classic FM, has been the author of two significant government reviews of music and cultural education (in 2011 and 2012), and has authored 27 books, most of them about classical music.

Henley said: 'Public investment has ensured the vitality and creativity of England’s cultural life. Arts Council England and the artists, performers and institutions we invest in contribute to who we are as a nation. I’m privileged to have the opportunity to lead this important organisation and support the extraordinary creativity and innovation that exists across the country in arts organisations, museums, galleries and libraries. I’m sad to be leaving Global and Classic FM after more than 20 years. Classic FM is a phenomenal, and truly unique and special brand. I leave behind a team of incredibly talented people and I wish them every success in the future.

'I look forward to working with the Arts Council teams around the country, particularly Althea Efunshile who is acting as Chief Executive until I arrive. Together, all of us at Arts Council England will continue to strive towards achieving great art and culture for everyone, no matter who they are or where they are in England.'
