New Podcast: Amsterdam Sinfonietta director Candida Thompson

The latest edition of the Gramophone podcast is now available to download. Violinist and Amsterdam Sinfonietta artistic director Candida Thompson speaks to Gramophone's editor Martin Cullingford about the ensemble's new disc of Britten works for Channel Classics - including Les Illuminations, Variations on a Theme of Frank Bridge, Serenade, Op 31 for tenor, horn and strings, and Now Sleeps the Crimson Petal for tenor, horn and string orchestra.

Thompson sheds light on working with soprano Barbara Hannigan in Les Illuminations and with tenor James Gilchrist in the Serenade, and discusses the opportunities to showcase a string orchestra in the Frank Bridge Variations. The podcast also features audio excerpts from the album.
