Thursday, April 21, 2011

In the Berliner Philharmoniker’s Digital Concert Hall, you can watch Sir Simon Rattle’s performance of Bach’s St Matthew Passion, in Peter Sellars’s semi-staged production, recorded in April 2010. The ‘cast’ includes Mark Padmore as the Evangelist and Christian Gerhaher as Christus with Camilla Tilling, Magdalena Kozená, Topi Lehtipuu, Thomas Quasthoff, the Rundfunk Chor and the children of the Staats- und Domchors, Berlin. The performance is introduced by Simon Halsey (chorus-master) and Peter Sellars. Visit the Digital Concert Hall for more details (there will be a charge to view).

Meanwhile on Easter Saturday, live from the NCPA Concert Hall in Beijing (11.30am GMT), you can catch a free relay of Yundi’s concert with the China NCPA Concert Hall Orchestra under Zuohuang Chen. The concert is bookended by two orchestral works – Liszt’s Les Préludes and the First Piano Concerto  – and at its heart contains a solo piano recital of works by Liszt (the Second Hungarian Rhapsody) and Chopin (a selection of Nocturnes and Polonaises). Visit the Medici website to view the concert and for further details.
