London's National Opera Studio has today announced that its current Chief Executive Emily Gottlieb is to stand down from the position, taking up the role of Executive Director at Oxfordshire's Longborough Festival Opera from April 2024.

The National Opera Studio, which trains young singers and repetiteurs in a year-long programme, has had Gottlieb at its helm since 2015. Prior to this, she spent 15 years at the Royal Opera House, first as stage manager, then in a leading role under CEO Alex Beard.

Speaking of her new position, Gottlieb said: 'I’m thrilled to join the Longborough team, especially in this exciting and ambitious year where this intrepid company is mounting Wagner’s monumental Ring Cycle. Longborough has already achieved a reputation for pushing boundaries, and its inventiveness and aspiration are together a draw and a testament to the whole team who make up the company.

'I shall look back at my time at the National Opera Studio with enormous gratitude and pride,' She continued. 'I will miss the incredible staff, young artists, alumni, coaches and creative teams, and will relish seeing them in my new role and in the opera houses of the world for years to come...'

Gottlieb's appointment comes following Longborough's announcement in September of the departure of Jennifer Smith, who moved to become a bursar at Balliol College in Oxford. Her replacement at the National Opera Studio is yet to be announced.
