The London Piano Festival returns to Kings Place for its ninth year, showcasing 3 days of classical and jazz performance with festival debuts by Lara Melda, Kit Armstrong, Rose McLachlan, Michael Wollny and Reinis Zariņš. Founded in 2016, the Festival has featured many notable artists in its short history, including Alfred Brendal, Alexandra Dariescu, Stephen Kovacevich, Jason Rebello and Kathryn Stot.

The Festival Founders Katya Apekisheva and Charles Owen will open the Festival with a ‘Mozart Gala’, a performance of three of Mozart’s early piano concerti. Owen will perform Concerto in C Major K415 and Apekisheva, Mozart’s Piano Concerto in A Major K414. Winner of the 2010 BBC Young Musician of the Year competition, Lara Melda will make her Festival debut with Mozart’s Piano Concerto in Eb Major K449. The Carducci String Quartet will accompany them with special arrangements for quartet.

Rose McLachlan will be making her debut Festival performance with 22 pieces inspired by Chopin’s 22 Nocturnes, an anthology of works by unpublished female composers, collated by McLachlan.

Kit Armstrong and Michael Wollny will join forces for a unique duo jazz improvisation set as Armstrong meets Wollny, as well as each presenting solo performances.

The Festival will close with Women and the Piano, a recital from pianist and writer Susan Tomes. Tomes will perform a series of compositions by women composers from the last 200 years, including the works of Clara Schumann, Fanny Mendelssohn, Cecile Chaminade and Amy Beach. Following the concert, there will be a Q&A with Tomes hosted by Editor of International Piano magazine and Deputy Editor of Gramophone magazine, Tim Parry.

The London Piano Festival begins on 4 October | Full details of the programme can be found here.
