Throughout the season of Lent, vocal ensemble The Gesualdo Six are presenting a series of short recitals, featuring motets, hymns and plainchant, all recorded at the historic church of St Bartholomew the Great in London.

'The season of Lent has provided composers with a canvas to create works full of atmosphere and drama. Programming sacred music for this time of year is challenging as there is such a rich vein of glorious repertoire to choose from,' said Owain Park, Director of The Gesualdo Six. 'Our Lent Sessions bring together motets, hymns and plainchant, all music that we have all missed singing with our colleagues on a Sunday morning at churches around London.'

The series began with a piece by 15th-century composer Jacob Obrecht, Parce Domine, which you can watch below:

A new episode will air every Sunday during Lent, with a total of eight performances, and ticket holders will be able to watch the series on-demand until 14 April 2021. For more information see The Gesualdo Six's website.
